Your Pet’s Safety is Our Priority: Why We’ve Changed Our Pharmacy Policy

As a mobile veterinary service, our mission has always been to provide the highest level of care in the most stress-free environment possible. To maintain that standard, we are making an important update to how we handle prescriptions.

McGee Veterinary Service will no longer communicate with, fax, or call in prescriptions to any external third-party pharmacies. While we previously made an exception for Chewy, we have found that the frequent errors, lost orders, and communication gaps from their side have become a barrier to providing the high-quality care your pet deserves.

Why the Change? Your Pet’s Health Comes First

In recent months, we have encountered significant challenges when working with large, third-party retailers, like Chewy.com or Walgreens. While these pharmacies are popular, we have seen a rise in issues that directly impact the well-being of our patients:

  • Inaccurate Fulfilling: We have seen instances where prescriptions were filled with an incorrect quantity of medication or incorrect amount of refills.

  • Lost Orders: We send over valid prescriptions that are never processed, leaving pets without necessary medication.

  • Administrative Friction: The hours our team spends speaking with various pharmacies or resending “lost” faxes is time we should be spending with your pets. Spending less time on administrative tasks allows us to keep our prices lower.

Because we cannot guarantee the quality control of these external corporations, we can no longer "co-sign" their services by sending your pet’s medical orders to them.

The Benefits of Our New Online Pharmacy

We’ve partnered with Vetcove to provide a seamless, secure experience that bridges the gap between our house calls and home prescription delivery.

  • Accuracy: Since our pharmacy is integrated with your pet’s medical records, there is no risk of a "middleman" misreading a dosage.

  • Convenience: With our home delivery service, your essential medications arrive directly at your doorstep on your terms. By opting for autoship, you can set your refills on a recurring schedule, ensuring you never run out of what you need while checking one more chore off your to-do list forever.

  • Support Local: Every purchase made through our pharmacy stays within our small business, allowing us to continue providing personalized, mobile care to our community.

What Does This Mean For You?

Enjoy the convenience of home prescription delivery with the accuracy of our clinical oversight. Our new online store is fully synced with your pet’s medical records, making it the fastest and safest way to replenish:

  • Prescription Food

  • Supplements (prescription and non-prescription)

  • Chronic Medications

  • Heartworm, Flea, & Tick Preventatives

If you strongly prefer to use an outside pharmacy despite the risks, we will provide you with a written paper prescription. You may then mail or bring in the physical copy to the pharmacy of your choice. We will not engage in phone, fax, or digital communication with those entities.

We appreciate your trust in us. By keeping your pet's pharmacy needs "in-house," we can better ensure that every pill, drop, and chew is exactly what the doctor ordered.
